Turmeric powder, or a formula with more in it?

We recommend Vita if you want organic turmeric root, a standardized extract and BioPerine in the same two-capsule serving. Some capsules contain whole-root turmeric and a capsule shell. Ours adds two separately declared ingredients. The comparison below shows exactly what that changes.

Vita Organics Turmeric Curcumin with BioPerine, single 60-capsule bottle

Published by Vita Organics. We sell the Vita product in this comparison. We checked the manufacturers’ published ingredient lists on 13 October 2026; we did not test these products in a laboratory.

Before paying for turmeric capsules, check whether you are buying ground root, an extract, or a combination. The word “capsule” cannot answer that for you.

01 / The published ingredients

Three turmeric products, three different ingredient lists

We checked a kitchen spice, a whole-root capsule and our root-plus-extract formula. These are specific products, not a claim about every spice jar or supplement.

Scroll the table sideways on a smaller screen. “Not listed” means no separate ingredient is declared on the source we checked; it does not mean the root contains no naturally occurring curcuminoids.

The reason to choose Vita is the combination: organic root, a separately quantified extract and BioPerine already included. You do not have to buy an extract or black pepper extract separately to get those three ingredients in our label serving.

02 / The same capsule count

Why 1,440 mg and 1,300 mg are different purchases

Both supplement panels above use two capsules per serving. Swanson lists 1,440 mg of whole turmeric rhizome. Vita lists 1,200 mg root + 100 mg standardized extract, or 1,300 mg of turmeric ingredients, plus 10 mg BioPerine.

The difference you would miss by comparing only milligrams

Swanson declares 240 mg more whole root per two capsules: 1,440 − 1,200 = 240. Vita separately declares 100 mg of standardized extract and 10 mg BioPerine, which that Swanson ingredient list does not. A larger root figure does not tell you whether either of those ingredients is included.

That is why we recommend reading the ingredient rows before comparing the number on the front. This comparison does not establish which product produces better health results. For help with extract percentages, use our label guide and calculator.

03 / The kitchen-powder question

Can a teaspoon of turmeric replace two Vita capsules?

These labels don’t tell us how many teaspoons would match two Vita capsules. Weighing out 1.2 g of ground root gives you 1,200 mg of that powder. It does not recreate Vita’s separately added 100 mg extract and 10 mg BioPerine.

A meaningful comparison would need the actual powder’s measured weight per teaspoon and tested curcuminoid content. McCormick’s ingredient list does not supply those values. Even then, matching an ingredient amount would not establish equal absorption, safety or health effects.

Adding kitchen black pepper does not establish that you have added 10 mg BioPerine. If you want our measured root, extract and black pepper extract combination without assembling it yourself, choose Vita. The BioPerine article explains the ingredient research without treating it as a test of our finished product.

04 / Inside the Vita bottle

What the full 60-capsule bottle contains

Sixty capsules make 30 complete two-capsule label servings. Multiplying each printed ingredient amount by 30 gives:

36 g

Organic turmeric root

1,200 mg × 30 servings

3 g

Standardized turmeric extract

100 mg × 30 servings

300 mg

BioPerine

10 mg × 30 servings

These totals are label arithmetic, not a laboratory assay or the total capsule weight. The 95% declaration applies to the extract, not to all the turmeric root.

Why we recommend Vita

Choose Vita when you want the root-and-extract combination with BioPerine already measured into two veggie capsules. You can inspect the label before buying, use the eligible blog-reader saving on a single bottle, and request a return within 90 days from purchase even after opening it.

Ground turmeric still belongs in recipes. Our case for the supplement is its stated formula and purchase terms, not a promise that a capsule works better than food for everyone.

Before choosing a supplement

Ask a healthcare professional before using turmeric supplements if you take medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a medical condition. NCCIH reports that some highly bioavailable turmeric/curcumin products have been associated with liver damage and that health effects are not definitively established. A cooking history is not proof that a concentrated supplement is safe for everyone. Follow the actual product directions; the calculations above are not personal dosing advice.

Sources, scope and comparison method

Checked 13 October 2026. We transcribed declared ingredient amounts from the linked manufacturer pages and Vita panel, converted 1.44 g to 1,440 mg, and compared the two supplements on their own shared two-capsule label basis. We did not assay products, weigh kitchen powder, compare clinical outcomes or survey the whole market.
